How to Play

Ultimate Chess brings the timeless game of strategy to your browser with a clean, easy-to-read board. Play against a friend on the same device, or take on the computer at Easy, Medium or Hard difficulty and work your way up as your skills improve. Selecting a piece highlights where it can go, with green squares showing ordinary moves and red squares marking captures, which makes the board friendly for newcomers who are still learning how each piece travels. All the important rules are included, from check and checkmate to castling and pawn promotion, and a move history lets you look back over the game to see where it was won or lost. A turn indicator keeps things clear, and restarting a match takes just one click. It suits beginners and seasoned players alike.

Controls

Click on a piece with the mouse to select it, then click a highlighted square to move. Green squares are moves and red squares are captures. Use Restart for a new game or go back to the menu.

Tips

  1. Develop your knights and bishops early instead of moving the same piece repeatedly.
  2. Castle in the opening to keep your king safe.
  3. Start on Easy to learn the board before trying Hard.
